Foods to Help Improve Your Uterine Lining

You might be wondering if there are foods you can eat to build and strengthen the uterine lining to aid with implantation and ongoing pregnancy. The short answer is yes, but let us elaborate.

Healthy Fertility Diet

If you are following a fertility diet with an emphasis on no overly processed foods, no processed sugar, no trans fat, plenty of whole foods and grains, carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables – then you are in great shape for encouraging your lining to have the thickness it needs to support implantation.

The normal uterine lining grows 1 to 2mm every other day in response to estrogen. After ovulation, it is considered normal to have a lining between 8 and 13mm. If, however, the lining does not develop to this thickness, then it is harder for the embryo to implant. Some of the reasons why this may happen include scarring from D&Cs, infection, poor uterine blood supply, low estrogen levels, and in some cases, endometrial antibodies.

What You Eat

If the causes are poor uterine blood supply or low estrogen levels, then what you eat can certainly make a difference. Estrogen causes our lining to grow and as we age, our estrogen levels can decrease thus, affecting our lining. Simply put, our ovaries are not putting out as much estrogen as they used to.

Here are some tips you should keep in mind if you want to improve your uterine lining:

*Limit sugar as it can upset the balance of our hormones.

*Eat a healthy, mostly whole foods diet. One holistic health practitioner, Lyn Vaccaro, recommends eating foods that contain phytoestrogens.

*Don’t eat peas. They are known to be natural contraceptives.

*Eat soy with caution. Soy contains a lot of phytoestrogens. Too much of those is also not good.

*Eat iron-rich and blood-nourishing foods such as protein. When eating meat, remember to eat lean and organic only. If you want something else other than animal protein, you should eat good blood builders such as rice, oats, lentils, and other types of beans. You should also eat green leafy vegetables, legumes, cabbage, mushrooms, celery, nuts and seeds.

*You may also try acupuncture. This brings more blood to your uterus and it works well to improve circulation.
