Nowadays, information on how to stay healthy is accessible to everyone. Proper nutrition, regular exercise, daily dose of vitamins and supplements are the most common ingredients to a healthy lifestyle. However, some women may be committing some vaginal care mistakes. Worse, some might even be overlooking vaginal health altogether.
The vagina knows how to take care of and clean itself. In fact, it requires very little assistance from women. However, this does not mean that you do not have to take care of it diligently.
Here are some useful vaginal care tips from us to you:
Do not clean your vagina with soap.
If you have scrubbed away with antibacterial soap for many years, this is the perfect time for you to STOP doing that. The vagina is a self-cleaning organ. It is not dirty and it does not need to be cleaned with harsh soaps and detergents. What happens if you do use soap down there? You irritate the delicate vaginal tissues and you also kill off the good bacteria: lactobacillis.
Avoid wearing tight fitting pants.
Some experts say that wearing skinny jeans and exercise pants is bad for your vagina. Keep in mind that clothes that are tight in the vaginal area, especially the ones made with non-breathable fabrics, make it hard for oxygen to flow in that area. If you do not want to give up your skinny jeans just yet, make sure yours are made with breathable fabrics.
You do not need to douche.
Ever seen a douching commercial that promises the feeling of freshness all day long? The truth is, douching actually damages your vagina. We mentioned earlier that the vagina has good bacteria. It is so for a reason. Vaginas need good bacteria to help keep its microenvironment operating properly. According to the Office of Women’s Health, douching can lead to yeast infection, vaginal irritation and dryness, pelvic inflammatory diseases, as well as problems becoming pregnant and during pregnancy.
Never ignore abnormal bleeding or vaginal pain.
Oftentimes, we tend to panic about petty things and ignore the big things that deserve our attention. When it comes to vaginal care, women can misconstrue serious symptoms: pain or abnormal bleeding. These two things should never be ignored. If you experience either of those symptoms, be sure to call your doctor immediately.
Remember, taking good care of your vagina is essential if you want to stay healthy. Try keeping these tips in mind and you will definitely avoid some problems down the road.
